The performance of your brain should be of paramount concern to you, because the better it performs, the better off you will be. This depends on how healthy it is and this in turn, depends on whether it is receiving the right amount of oxygen and nutrients that you can also complement with your drinks.
Drinks are a fun and easier way to top off your daily nutrient allowance. Some of these drinks are given below.
1. Carrot juice
Carrots and their juice are filled with beta-carotene antioxidants that prevent oxidative damage to brain cells from free radicals produced by chemical reactions in cells.
These antioxidants also prevent damage and subsequent inflammation on the walls of blood vessels that supply the brain with oxygen, which could otherwise enhance accumulation of waxy substances that turn into a hard plaque, clogging that vessel and increasing blood pressure, while reducing blood flow to the brain. As a result, the brain subsequently reduces in performance due to reduced supply of nutrients and oxygen.
If the blood pressure becomes great, it could rupture blood vessels in the brain, causing blood clots in the brain and death of brain cells in that area and leading to stroke.
2. Green tea
Green tea contains a lot of antioxidants that function similarly to those found in carrot juice. They also contain another compound called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which has been found to enhance memory and improve mood. It works hand in hand with caffeine – also found in this tea, to improve concentration and relieve stress.
L-theanine another compound found in green tea helps in the production of chemicals and neurotransmitters that improve learning memory and lightens your mood. It also puts the brain into the alpha wave state which is related to increased alertness and relaxation.
3. Matcha tea
Matcha tea is the ‘Cadillac’ of the tea world, it is packed with more antioxidants than most other teas and has more than 130 times the amount of EGCG than green tea does, multiplying the effects many, many folds that it has on the brain.
